He's taken quite a bit of shit. His company CasaHODL added ETH to their key management product, which unsurprisingly set bitcoin twitter alight. Then the company released a roadmap that included a focus on diversity in their workplace. The reaction was like a general election—it brought out the worst in people, from calls of censorship, to sexism and racism.
I like Jameson Lopp. I find him articulate, has great posts and insights, and a vision of bitcoin that I relate to. I don't agree with everything, but we need more balanced minds like him. I could probably say the same about John Carvalho (@BitcoinErrorLog), whose vision is also worth a listen. Neither of these guys have any problem challenging the bitcoin community's status quo. Bitcoiner's really need to revisit their worldviews more often. It's a quality every great strategist has. That doesn't mean sound money fundamentals, it means all the other shit that will help it proliferate.
If you a bitcoiner, you are already comfortable with heresy and going against the orthodoxy of the majority. It’s a feature not a bug. All the self-imposed purity tests are really anti-Bitcoin.
I too like Jameson and his thoughts. If I was running a company, I want people who think differently than me and with a different world-view. And, running a company means that you do what your customers want, not what you want.
Those who grew up in religious communities know that those who yell the loudest about other people behavior are the most full of shit. The good folks are humbly stacking sats and appreciate the work of the voices of the Bitcoin values, without being too judgmental.

That means you are too "green" into Bitcoin. You still don't know why bitcoin maxis are maxis... You have much to learn. Bitcoin is what it is today exactly because bitcoin maxis exist and defend it until death from the shitcoining disease.
reply
The best bitcoiners are not toxic maxi. Jameson, Sztorc, Poelstra etc

Casa is a shitcoin company and always has been. They dropped a dead-end litecoin product. They literally baked etherium into their values statement (before they retracted it). And then they executed on an Ethereum product when it looked profitable.
Ignoring all that is on the plebs.
Jameson is cool tho. The guy literally tests our steel backup products under pressure, fire, and chemicals. He regularly gut checks IBD performance. He's a scientific beast. I think it's hard to justify a business model to stakeholders in a volatile crypto market without ultimately chasing the shitcoin dollar. It's also hard to acquire talent without making all the requisite DEI noises for the children.

Anything that touch shitcoins will became a shit. Including people. Not a single time this failed. Is just a matter of time.
This is the shitcoins disease. That's why is better to stay away from all of them. Be moral, be wise, be honest, be clean. But have no remorse for sinners.
All those playing with shitcoins are driven by greed and ego. They show weakness. Part of the seven sins.

Any network that is interoperable with Bitcoin, will increase the value of both networks.
It's a two way street.
Strike is helping the network effects of USD and BTC.
WBTC is helping the network effects of ETH and BTC.
Nostr is helping the network effects of BTC and itself.
This view that Bitcoin can cut off <insert network/country/protocol here>, through social consensus slows everything down.
I, personally, will be friendly to anybody who wants to build pro-choice, anti-state, anti-censorship, systems.
Let's fight the CBDCs, and dictators, and big-tech together...this bickering with <insert network/country/name here> is dumb af.

  1. Casa is not Jameson. How do you know he didn't fight the idea of including ETH services?
  2. Their services aren't actual shitcoinery. In fact, they are charging shitcoiners a fee to do something secure with their coins. Some might call this taking advantage of shitcoiners!
reply
I really don't give a shit about all this drama. I know for a fact: anything that touch a shitcoin will became a shit.
reply
Most of the Maxis I know are ex shitcoiners. Not everything that touch a shitcoin become a shit.

You will remember my words.... Is just a matter of time. I am in Bitcoin from long time ago and I saw this happening many times before. This is not new.

As have I Darth, from the Mt. Gox lemmings and deprecated block war personalities to the Celsians and soon GBTCers
reply
GBTC? Interesting. Due to DCG going to shit?
reply
DCG needs an immediate bull market to survive getting parted off. GBTC will get sold or unwound. Investors should be fine so long as there's no scammy balance sheet holes.

Absolutely love Lopp's work and his incredible contributions to Cypherpunkdom.
If you're not OK with Lopp, you're an enemy of freedom.
reply
If you're not ok with someone being not ok with someone YOU'RE the enemy of freedom, and this statement has nothing to do with Lopp
reply
2nd sentence is self contradictory.
reply
Lopp has done more for the community than most of the muppets criticizing him.
reply
Lopp is an interesting guy.
reply
I don't particularly care. Lopp's articles are great, and I don't have to agree with him on absolutely everything to recognise the quality of the content he produces.
Plus, I really appreciate that we have a guy who dunks shit in acid.

100%

It is unfortunate that those who sit closer to the fiat spigot, I mean meat grinder, and doth bequeath their promises to pay back fiat toilet paper later, can't wear a public image of unimpeachable.
If they aren't weaning themselves off debt then what can we do????!!!
If you already understand bitcoin, you don't even need to pay attention to these border dwellers!
The world is ALREADY brighter!

This is why you want to keep your capX tables small and clean.
This wreaks of activist investment takeover.

Thanks @elzonte, can you elucidate further?

Bitcoin needs less gatekeeping.

I will still read Loop's articles, but I wouldn't touch CASA with a ten-foot pole. Sooner or later, that ship is going down.
reply
totally agree, same with Nic Carter who did A LOT for bitcoin, and was burned at the stakes when his vision wasn't "that popular" anymore,... and lots of other people, also Tone Vays etc. We need to embrace bitcoiners, even if they're not 100% "our thing" ... we're all humans, and mostly bitcoiners want to advance bitcoin.

As a former customer of casa products (casa node, multisig) the company isn’t really ran well. They quit on casa node, the multisig is too expensive they had the worst spreads for purchasing, the code is close source (far as I know) and they locked me out of my own phone private key.
I respect Lopp and he is an example brilliant people can be part of terrible business.
reply
I personally will never do business with him or Casa because I don't go for all the shitcoinery and woke nonsense, but if you're into that, great!

Bitcoin maximalism is slowly taking the same turn as feminism. Even if in theory are a "maxi", the radical Bitcoin "maxi" dogma is so strong that genuine people don't even want to associate with it.
