Work is mounting, but I took the time out to belanja (treat) this ex-student to lunch. Owing to my change in school, I had missed out on his graduation ceremony, so this was my small way of making amends.
I’m old enough to be his father, so it was hard to keep the conversation going since this was actually the first time we sat down for a prolonged chat. But effort was invested from both ends, so I guess it wasn’t too painful.
After that lunch, he sent me a nice message to thank me for treating him and spending time with him. In a flash, I realised that he has grown up — to be a thoughtful young man who appreciates gestures at a deeper level.
