Honestly, I'm surprised it's that balanced.
Yes, that was my first thought as well - that there's no way 10% identify as conservative.
Something to consider is that all of the definitions have drifted to the left, as well.
I'm pretty sure there's similar trends, but with partisan affiliations, that do show a much lower percentage of Republicans.
Very crazy. The fact itself is widely known, but I'm not aware of any deep dives into the causes.
Just looking at that chart, I'd look for something specifically anti-conservative in the early 80's and another pro-liberal thing a decade later.
