I'm a Gen-Xer, in the 90s the entire ethos of the "tech field" was basically cypher/cyber punk. It was pro-decentralization, pro-privacy. Somewhere around 2007 or so I started to notice a shift at places like HN and reddit, where younger entrants to the field started with a shoulder-shrug response....the 'eh, what can you do....you're tracked anyway'.

Now with Gen-Z I think there are beyond even "I'm aware I'm being tracked but accept it" and have moved into being completely unaware whats going on.

Its a very dangerous long term situation.
