Here's what it looks like:
Well, I can get my hands on a Dell Latitude E6430s Laptop i5-3320M 2.6GHz 8GB RAM. It has no HDD currently, but I have a spare 160GB Sata I could put in it and ship it with that. The laptop currently runs Win 7 but I could put Linux Ubuntu on it beforehand and it would run Linux instead, providing more space and easier operation. How does that sound?
Wow, that honestly sounds really great. Thank you so much for this — I really appreciate it. The laptop with the Ubuntu setup sounds perfect. I’m super grateful for your generosity and the effort you’re putting into this. It really means a lot to me. 🙏
K, then I'm going to go forward to secure it. However, it will probably take me something around 2 weeks to get it done and ready to ship to Canada. What's your schedule on your contact's end?
She'll be returning home in April. May I know where you'll be shipping from...
She thinks you're in US. I don't know.
Ok, that's plenty of time. I'm going to secure the laptop now, get it shipped to me, prepped and then let you know when it's time to ship out.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it, and considering how long shipping might takes, it might actually makes more sense for me to just buy a refurbished laptop locally.
Around here, $150–$175 can get a decent refurbished machine that’s good enough for the work, and it means we doesn’t have to wait weeks or deal with shipping issues. We could get things moving much faster.
What do you think about us contributing towards this instead? Feels like a simpler and more practical option overall.
Let me know what you think
Wow.
I already bought the laptop and now you want me to change gears and just give you money. Well, this wasn't a contract per se so there was no "obligation" per se, but now you've burned me and yourself. Not only are you not getting a donation, you're not getting that laptop either. Have a good year.
I hear you, and I agrees — this it wasn’t a contract and there was no obligation on either side.
I wasn’t trying to changes gears or putting you in a difficult position. I was simply looking at what I felt might be a better alternative and raised it in good faith. There was no intention to burning you or take advantage of the situation.
That said, I respect your decision and your feelings about it. It’s unfortunate it ended this way, but I accept it and wish you well going forward.
Have a good year too.
Need a confirm on your timing. See my note on how long things will take below.
The primary purpose is to have a working laptop and other tools. Whichever way works for you. Either donating the actual tools, or alternatively donating sats, so I can buy in Malawi.
I did my best to find someone who could bring me it to Malawi, in order to address the shipping challenges.
