What do you enjoy spending money on?
Raising children is an expensive endeavour, but I think people who shun away from it because of its perceived costs are missing half the point.
What they don’t take into account is the joy of spending on your kids. When we talk about spending, we instantly think of after-school care services and tuition classes — expenses that are required to keep our child alive and ahead of the competition. The kind of spending, I agree, dampens the spirit. But other expenses, though frivolous, paint a grin on my heart.
At the Popular bookstore, the daughter saw a Frozen bag. Just minutes earlier, I had flat out rejected her request to buy a $70 worth of Frozen Lego play set. To her credit, she took the rejection like a trooper.
Now, she put her hands together, her earnest face pleading me for leniency.
I looked at the bag. It would look good on her. She only has a year or two left before she loses interest in “Frozen”. The time was now.
So I bought it. $34.90. She whooped with joy. The bag did look good on her. I smiled gleefully to myself. I’m living vicariously through my children, through the small doses of happiness that money can buy.
You are right about this. There is a pretty great feeling when you are able to make something like this happen for your kids.
I tend to be a tightwad and very reluctant to spend money, but there have been a few occasions where my wife and I decided to buy something fun for our kids and it has always been pretty memorable.
What was the most recent purchase that made an impression?
we got them cowboy hats and it was not something they were expecting. This was back in October and they still wear them around.
I wanna one of those!!!
