We'll have stacker settings for sat filters for each comments and posts. It makes downzaps way more effective at helping others avoid baddies - anyone can push a comment/post below other stackers thresholds and it's collapsed/hidden.
It'll ship in the next few days. Just doing final testing now.
That sounds good but does it mean in effect anyone could remove comments from being visible to all other Stacker by spending enough sats downzapping- or only change the position of the comment in the comments hierarchy/order?
It collapses comments below a stacker specified threshold. It doesn't hide them in any other sense. Wild west mode won't be a thing anymore - it's all sat filters that you can tune how you want to.
If folks want to see heavily downzapped comments that are uncollapsed, they can set their filter to a negative value. Also zaps/boost can push a comment in the other direction.
Sadly even CC shitcoins can be used in the same way.
Downzapping could perhaps be limited to true sats to improve the integrity of the sats based ethos of SNs and weed out the hypocrits who claim to be Bitcoiners but do not attach wallets.
I don't normally mute other users or downzap... because I really like to get a variety of quality perspectives, even if I disagree with them. It also doesn't help to mute, because SN is such a small community muting people means even fewer users which we don't want.
At the same time... comments and replies should be constructive. I will give it time, sometimes alcohol is involved and it's understandable people can be a little touchy given the market volatility which is normal.
Some people struggle with critical analysis and reasoned sequential dialogue and debate.
They prefer to evade a sequential reasoned dialogue and default to attacking the messenger and other crude trolling avoidance tactics.
Why would you want to conceal your use of LN?

@Solomonsatoshi do you report every single zap, every micro-transaction of a few sats, on your taxes to the authorities?
All the transaction fees, when you 'received' the sats and when you 'disposed' of them for Zapping? Or did New Zealand removed capitals gains taxes on Bitcoin the last few years?
Why hide? Surely you reported each Zap, correct?

One of the reasons I really like Stacker News is that sats are the moderator.
If you don't like what another stacker is saying you can mute them so you don't get notifications from their replies or downzap them so that their comments are ranked lower.
