Money has never been a "blame someone" power. That's simply scapegoating from someone who didn't get enough money because they got beat by someone or they have a bunch and don't want to share it. After getting rid of gold, fiat money has been the true government control over what people do with their economic lives. It hasn't been threatened since the 1970s until crypto came along as a substitute. Of course the government wants to surveil as well as control fiat off-ramps. It's the only way to stop suddenly becoming powerless.
