This is a really nice short article about Lamport signatures for those of us who are not deep into the cryptography world.

Signatures are the single-most important primitives, the cryptographic proofs that verify that indeed Alice previously controlled said UTXO & now transferred ownership to Bob. If a new signature scheme is the talk of the town, it’s likely worth reviewing & understanding.

Unlike ECDSA or Schnorr signatures, Lamport signatures are based on hashing, not elliptic curves.

Because of this, Lamport signatures are much more resistant to quantum computer doom.

Unfortunately, they are also really big:

the final Lamport signature is actually a whopping x128 times larger than an ECDSA signature (8.2k vs 64 bytes).

So it sounds like they aren't quite ready for production, but I believe things like Winternitz (#1066824) may be improvements on it.
