Oftentimes, someone responds to one of the BIP 110/filter guys by pointing out that the transactions they don't like are valid transactions, as though that's a counterargument.
That's not the point of disagreement. It's the common ground. As you said, a counterargument needs to include why that change is bad. Everyone knows that it's a change.
