SACRAMENTO — California lawmakers have introduced a controversial bill aimed at stopping the printing of firearms and gun parts using 3D printers. The proposed legislation, Assembly Bill AB-2047, would require all 3D printers sold or transferred in California to be certified by the state and equipped with “firearm blocking technology.” This technology is designed to detect and block files that could be used to manufacture guns or illegal firearm components before they are printed. If passed, any 3D printer model not approved by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) would be banned from sale or transfer after March 1, 2029, and circumventing the required software could lead to civil penalties
