imho ordinals at their best/worst are blockchain graffiti. getting a BIP would ruin that.
i also think BIP maintainers scoping BIPs to bitcoin-as-money improvement proposals makes sense. that's why i imagine BIP 110, as unsavory as it is, got a BIP and ordinals didn't.
The graffiti point is actually pretty good. But, maybe all the people who want to trade their ordinals and make mad dollaz were hoping a bip would give them some investment money or something.
I don't have a pony in the ordinals race, but I've seen some reactions to @kanzure closing their bip draft and I'm confused...
Bitcoin is permissionless. Bips are just standards. Why do they care so much?
Seems to me they've been able to do plenty of ordinal stuff without it.
Also: why not just create a heretical bips repo and stick the standard there?
