They tell you not to speak about what happened as a kid. Not because it'll "bring back old memories." Because if you speak, you name it. And when you name it, it loses power.
What They Don't Tell You
Unspoken trauma runs the show. It hides in the background. It runs patterns you can't see. It controls you without you knowing.
But the moment you name it? The moment you give it words? The moment you say "this happened, and this is what it did"?
It loses power. Not because the memory disappears. Because you're not running from it anymore. You're seeing it. And you can't be controlled by what you see.
Two Documents That Understand This
• The Declaration of Independence isn't philosophy. It's a list. A public naming. "Here's what you did. Here's why we're leaving."
• The Bible isn't philosophy either. It's a witness. Prophets naming abuse. Psalmists crying out. Jesus calling out the shepherds who fed on the sheep.
Both are declarations. Both are evidence. Both are dangerous to systems that rely on silence.
Why Therapy Sometimes Fails
Not because therapy is bad. Because they'd rather you process in private than expose in public. They'd rather you "work through it" alone than gather with others who were hurt. They'd rather you forgive quietly than demand justice loudly.
Therapy that never names the system isn't healing. It's containment.
What Happens When You Name It
• Before: It runs you — After: You see it
• Before: You react without knowing why — After: You respond with awareness
• Before: The shame is yours — After: The shame goes where it belongs
• Before: The pattern repeats — After: The pattern breaks
Naming isn't dwelling. Naming is exorcism. You call it out so it can't hide anymore.
The Verse
John 8:32 says: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Know the truth. Not avoid it. Not forget it. Not "move past" it. Know it.
Because knowing is where freedom starts.
So Keep Naming
Name the abuse. Name the pattern. Name the system. Name what they did.
Not because you're bitter. Because you're free. And freedom speaks. Freedom names. Freedom doesn't stay quiet to protect the guilty.
When you name it, it loses power. Not because the past changes. Because you do.
And a you that sees clearly can't be controlled by what's hiding in the dark.
The silence was never to protect you. It was to protect them. Break it.
