I think there's an insulin element to this, I've eaten clean for the better part of a decade, heavy on protein and good fats, but rarely straight carnivore... I think fruit is too important to forego. Still, food noise never went away.
Insulin would explain carnivore solving it though.
I'm a little over a month into TRE with no cheating, and after a few days that really cut down the food noise. The TRE allegedly fixes insulin pretty quick. For the first few days of it I was waking up with the "carb flu" I remember from carnivore experiments.
Haven't had much problem in recent years with eating too much during the day, but when willpower or whatever fades at night, I could crush calories before bed. My math on those late night calories would jive with YoY weight gain.
Has always felt near impossible not to snack after dinner, particularly if staying up late to hack... and is definitely impossible if having some adult beverages with the wife after the kids go to bed.
After 3-4 days of strictly willing the TRE however, the pre-bed cravings have finally disappeared, and so I've been able to cruise... that has taken out a lot of abdominal bloat already which is allegedly insulin related.
