Yet for some reason they like us better. We don't force them into anything. They know life would be worse under the PRC. They would rather risk getting attacked than peacefully submit to communism. I don't get how you call that "subservient." That's self-respect.
If Taiwan held a referendum and voted 51% to join the PRC, the US would let them. It's completely their choice to not be communist. If anything we're giving them tribute.
