Not quite the Streisand effect, but I wonder if OP isn't memeing this into existence by continuing to bring more attention to it?

On reddit there's definitely a mob mentality where sometimes a half-decent comment will get one or two downvotes and then for no rational reason soon everyone dogpiles in with downvotes.

I've been the victim and perpetrator of this many times lol... It's hard to resist a good reddit downvote train especially when people start to correctly point out how undeserving of downvotes the original comment is then it's game over haha
