In a departure from my typical peer-to-peer ways I stacked some sats through River for the first time in a while. As i attempted to withdraw I had to scan my face and my ID and then was told "Your ID verification has been submitted successfully and is being reviewed. You will be notified by email soon."
I consider River to be one of the "good guys" as they've been good actors, have provided good education, added lightning support, and haven't delved into shitcoinery. However I don't remember the withdrawal process being so invasive in the past. I feel ill. Is that how it is for withdrawls across the KYC landscape now? I mean having to pledge my first born to withdral some corn was "BlockFi esque" in my opinion. Need to go stack som sats via Bisq to cleanse myself....
never had to kyc to withdraw sats. once to verify my account with the cex I use, and once again for a large fiat deposit.
never have used river though.

Is this the first time you've withdrawn from them or do they do this every time?
reply
I don't know if they do this all the time now. I haven't used them for a while (it has probably been more than 8 months) but I never had to do this in the past. Back when I did keep some sats on BlockFi this was the norm.

It might be a random verification process then

Yeah would love to know if others are going through this or if it's more of a one-off....

I've used them and had to do this on my first withdrawal, but don't recall doing in any other time ... so might just be random or triggered by some condition for security.
