When I first came across this project, I thought it was fairly uninteresting. The landing page features a bold-text heading that says:
Rebuilding My Grandfather's Sawmill. With Bitcoin.Rebuilding My Grandfather's Sawmill. With Bitcoin.
This is the kind of heading that turns me off. And they have a geyser page...and they are raising money (you can "request an allocation") -- all of which are pretty big red flags. So I can't really speak to this specific project, but...
The presentation is scammy, but their concept is really cool! The presentation is scammy, but their concept is really cool!
Lumbermills take a bit of power. Milled lumber also needs to be kiln dried (put in a hot place for a while). Where there's heat and energy, there can be Bitcoin mining!
The concept they law out on their website is this:
- Log and mill lumber.
- Mine bitcoin with excess energy.
- Use heat from miners as kiln heatsource.
The mill is kinda the big power draw and the Bitcoin miners do feel a little like an add on, but I could see a world where a small specialized mill for exotic hardwoods might find the right mix.
Now we're not only boiling the ocean but also cutting the trees!
They just missed a word
