The biggest issue is the first round busts and the Trey Lance trade.
They also trade back a lot which butt hurt Warren doesn't acknowledge here. They don't have Fred Warner if they didn't trade back in 2018 when they selected Mike McGlinchey (who is still in the league and is one of the highest paid RTs- which butt hurt Warren thinks is a bust because the 49ers didn't take a S or CB when they needed to draft a replacement for Joe Staley who was retiring the following year). If they didn't trade back when they picked Kinlaw they wouldn't have gotten Aiyuk later in the first (ok maybe that's a bad example but he was a WR1 before he went bonkers).
Butt hurt Warren thinks the 49ers are the worst drafting team in the league because they don't pick who he wants them to pick but I look at the roster and see 16 out of 22 starters drafted by the 49ers on a team that is tied for the 6th best odds to win the Super Bowl. Some kind of disconnect there. How can one of the best teams in the league have 72% of their starters be home grown and be the worst drafting team in the league?
I proposed the solution yesterday. Consensus generally becomes irrelevant after the top 50, maybe 100 guys. The 49ers hit so much late because they don't go consensus and go with guys that fit their scheme, traits prototype, culture. You don't want to lose those late round hits but need to improve in the early rounds.
So hire a top talent evaluator and give him the reigns during the early rounds (at least 1 and 2, but preferably 1-3) and then let John, Kyle and whoever else is involved do what they want for the rest of the draft.
I will push back against Warren a bit here. His methodology for ranking drafts solely based on DCOE is stupid. The 49ers drafted 7 starters over the last two drafts (24, 25). The draft is a crap shoot and most prospects flame out. If you are getting 3-4 starter level players (starters on a good team I might add) those are not bottom 3-5 drafts as he suggests. I noticed he didn't include 22 because it would have looked really bad if he ranked the 49ers last while they got a franchise QB with the last pick in the draft. Honestly, I don't know why he is so butt hurt about it. Twitter analysts seem big mad a lot of teams went against consensus (including draft darlings like the Rams and Seahawks) so they are feeling small and unimportant and want to take it out on the 49ers because they are the most egregious. .
Seems like the 9ers should just trade all their 1-4 round draft picks for 5th round selections @grayruby
Unless a Nick Bosa is gifted to them in a unanimous top pick slot that is a pretty poor selection with multiple top 10 busts.

Reminds me of Gruden. You really don't want someone leading the draft room who thinks so highly of himself.
