This is not remotely as serious as people are making it out to be. It says that the tagging will at most state that the purchase is from a gun retailer. But it won't say what was purchased. You could buy $400 worth of earplugs from a gun store and it would look exactly the same as if you had bought a $400 gun. I've seen plenty of gas stations that sell guns, so Discover is about to start polluting their own data for no benefit.
But conservatives didn't care when it was revealed that the ATF records all firearm purchases in a database, and makes that database available to foreign governments, notably the Mexican government. But now, conservatives are losing their minds over a minor card processor saying "yeah, that purchase came from a store that happens to also sells guns."
America is a circus and conservatives are just one of the many factions of clowns vying for your attention.
