The Complete Backup Strategy for Your Bitcoin and Lightning Node: Automated, Encrypted, and TestedThe Complete Backup Strategy for Your Bitcoin and Lightning Node: Automated, Encrypted, and Tested

Not because Bitcoin is broken.
Because their backup strategy is.

“Yeah I wrote down my seed”
→ cool, that won’t save your Lightning channels.

Lightning backups are fragile, stateful, and easy to mess up.
And yet most guides still treat them like it’s 2017.

Reality check:

• Seed ≠ full recovery
• Static Channel Backup ≠ safe in all scenarios
• Copying your node folder blindly can get you penalized
• Not testing recovery = you don’t have a backup

If your node dies today, would you actually recover everything… or just hope for the best?

I put together a complete strategy that covers:

– Proper Lightning backups (without getting punished)
– Automation (so you don’t forget)
– Encryption + offsite setup
– Real recovery scenarios (not theory)

Curious to hear:
how many of you have actually tested a full recovery?

I did and it sucks really hard because you have basically always force close all channels. So there is not really a full recovery possible (at least you get back your funds).

Something to add: if you have channel peers that are offline for a longer period of time either contact them (if you can) to ask whats going on or close the channel. In case both are offline you cannot recover your funds.

Nope. If you know more about your LND node (in particular) you do not have to force close any channels, even when you migrate your LND node to another hardware.

Yeah, true if you don't have some kind of failure (e.g. ssd) and you know exactly your state of the node.

Looks like posts like this #1478150 of yours show how much is your knowledge level...

In other words... your lack of knowledge is disturbing.

I see this as good opportunity to exchange knowledge and learn from mistakes. Is a open ended loop and sometime I simply look for validation on things I heard but not necessarly align with. I'm just, trying to not be biased bro!

intention is good, execution failed.

I'll then try harder, without crying.
