The reason to hate Nickelback is they put no effort and creativity into their music. Chad Kroeger has admitted they use a formula based on dissecting previously popular songs to generate tracks that will be catchy and become popular rather than writing based on inspiration. They are very manufactured.
Not that most pop music isn't but I expect more inspiration and emotion from a rock band than I do some pop artist or boy band.

Have you heard disturbed??? As soon as they found a sound that sold, (this sickness album), every subsequent album was the exact same construction.
They did a great cover of the Sound of Silence.
And shout, and land of confusion. LoC is very powerful in their version.

By almost every measure, they're good.
However I can see how "over" commercialised sound is something some people may not like.

Nickleback are good, I will die on that hill repeatedly. Their live shows are really entertaining, high octane, big energy.
Canada's second best export, behind only Brian Adams.
