pull down to refresh

My son showed me a piece of writing he had done in school earlier. Apparently, he was asked to write down everything he knows about ants.

So, he wrote about how ants use gas to communicate among one another. The proper term is pheromones, but of course he didn’t know how to spell that. He also wrote about how ants pass food to each other via their mouths and are best kept inside a red film because they thrive in the dark.

A surge of surprise floored me. I didn’t expect that he would remember these facts, much less write them down.

I am heartened by his learning progress. It also serves as a timely reminder for me to expose him to a variety of interesting experiences so that they get assimilated into his soul. And not through drilling from textbooks and assessment books.
