Jeremy saying that the most controversial thing he did "was proposing Bitcoin have covenants" is funny. Firstly, covenant schemes were proposed before (with ones based on presigned transactions being used since 2013) and some of them even got added to the Bitcoin protocol (e.g., OP_CSV, OP_CLTV), secondly, this reminded me of something I overheard at a conference recently: "OP_TEMPLATEHASH is what OP_CHECKTEMPLATEVERIFY would be if Jeremy took feedback."
I’m especially curious what others think about the latter statement.
