I've been thinking about buying physical gold for a while, ever since I became interested in bitcoin in fact.
So I finally made my first purchase with The Perth mint X Dune, 1g gold bar and a 1oz silver coin, they are limited to 5000 units. I will receive them in the coming days !
I'm also a fan of the films and especially the Dune books, which made me love science fiction literature. It comes at the right time, the price is falling and it combines a rare collector's item with a metal that I wanted to acquire.
What was your first purchase of precious metals?
Nice. Goldbacks https://www.goldback.com/ was my first foray into precious metals. My kids learned about them from a Tuttle Twins episode, so I bought a stash to have on hand for the tooth fairy. They love stacking them. On their own, they have decided to save the goldbacks and spend their dollars instead!
Oh yeah, I actually discovered Goldbacks a few days ago through this video: https://youtu.be/GJXbxlYXvMo. Really interesting video for beginners btw.
I find it fascinating to be able to buy gold in the form of paper notes, plus the artistic designs on them are gorgeous, which makes them great collector's items.
I’m based in Europe and quickly looked around online for these famous Goldbacks, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I guess they're pretty rare around here or it might be easier to find them for sale through private collectors.
I grabbed mine from Defy the Grid https://defythegrid.com/contact/. FAQ says they ship internationally
very cool!!!!!!
first purchase was trading odd sounding quarters for regular quarters.
i was hustlin in middle school
Is gold trading taxed in your jurisdiction?
Here in New Zealand it is and the trading margins available at the few gold merchants are terrible.
Thailand is the place to go to buy and sell gold as there is a very tight spread and no tax on trading at least for small to medium scale trades.
Gold jewellery carries a slightly higher trading spread but is easier to walk through customs with.
Chinatown/Yarowat near the old central BKK railway station is the place to go.
I sold bitcoin and bought gold over recent months - picking BTC is going down for the next few years while gold should hold and maybe continue its rise as the petrodollar sinks into the Hormuz Strait.
