When Kai Kai and Jia Jia, two pandas on loan from the Chinese government arrived on Singapore soil, the breeding team wasted no time facilitating their mating.

The window of opportunity is precariously limited; female pandas are fertile for only 24-48 hours every year.

Kai Kai was clueless in the first year, so mating efforts were futile.
The team also tried artificial insemination, but in vain.

However, the team was committed to achieving successful breeding.

Seven long years.
Seven attempts.
Finally, Jia Jia got pregnant and gave birth to a cub affectionately known as Le Le.
