Testnet4 genesis block is May 2024.
Signet is certainly easier to use, but I think it is not so good for modelling open network dynamics -- particularly if you want to model how something works with miners.

Wasn't testnet 4 only released last year? Maybe it's been a few years already.
After I got some signet sats I found I didn't need to use testnet anymore.
