I have to say I am a little surprised by this. It makes me wonder if he was only going to keep the job if he won the Stanley Cup, because that is a little bit of an insane ask. After all, he was hired with only 8 games remaining in the regular season in an attempt to ensure that LV made the playoffs, which he delivered on.

What a strange situation. Was he only brought in just to win the cup? Did he want to stay even if they lost?
Tortorella is one of those old school, hard nose coaches that don't really work in the NHL anymore because rich millennials and gen Zers don't like being yelled at. Same with Craig Berube with the Leafs it can work for awhile but it wears off quick. I guess Vegas didn't think his schtick would work for another full season.
I’m not a rich millennial but I don’t like being yelled at either lol
Toughen up kid. Haha
When I had a corporate job I recall a VP telling me he was disappointed I didn't get something done. I was working my ass off and producing at a high level for them. If he yelled at me I probably would have gotten pissed off and wanted to quit but telling me he was disappointed worked like a charm. I worked all night the next two nights to get caught up on the stuff I hadn't done.
fuck those manipulative VPs lol
I had a good VP. One of the reasons I ended up leaving was he got passed over for the COO job. If he had gotten it I might still be with the company and be a VP now. Haha
instead you’re co-ceo of Stacker Sports
no regrets
hahaha love this
Have you already forgotten the corporate hierarchy?
I am clearly the Chairman of the board of old men yelling at clouds.

Agree! Its just all around odd because if they won was Golden State going to be forced to keep him just due to the optics of it all? It wasn't like when he was hired, it was stated: "hey, it's just for the end of the season and playoffs!"
He has an expiry date. He probably wouldn't have lasted a season. They harnessed his power and made a run. Came close but it didn't work out.
Probably for the best to move on.
