I ran a bunch of simulations (very unscientifically) and at 30% hashrate mining BIP 110 I never got a wasted block for the main Bitcoin chain, but at 40% I frequently got a five or six lock orphaned chain before the main chain pulled decisively ahead.
It seems like the math people could figure out a way to establish the "optimal" BIP 110 hash power (ie what is the lowest hash power supporting BIP 110 that results in the most disruption per hash/time -- or something like this).

please don't buy their bullshit. anyone selling you a predictive model has oversimplified to the point where a rational actor is either Colin, picking columns from a matrix, or his opponent, Rose, of similar infamy. The reality is a nightmare of actual people who have conversations, administer infrastructure, and might even run programs that have behavior modifiable after temporarily abandoning the computer to do as it woult.
I finally recovered my metrics node last Sunday (recovering from faulty nvme disks is a bitch) and will work to graph how close signaling is to this magical 40% today.
