Is there one you'd recommend? In my experience it's easy to get lost personally or as a project trying out these decentralized options. Stackers of course are good with trade-offs.

Rather than take on the admin burden of running your own forgejo, gitlab, etc I'd recommend people check out Codeberg. It's a German non-profit with transparency and a great community.
