We gotta see what we can do to change that anemic revenue. Gotta get more zapping going! (I'd love to put time into this if you want some assistance)

too many Denstravaganzas... ain't nobody want that no more

reply

Sucks for them because (spoiler alert) there's another one coming up later today.

reply

ah, fucksake!

I hate that Den guy. Ruins everything

It's a site-wide phenomenon. I suspect we need a rising tide to lift our boats.

Have you guys been talking about new growth strategies?

reply

It is the main topic of conversation for every meeting. I find that the AMAs are helping with our reach (more people seeing SN and even coming to check it out), but I suspect wallet mechanics are still challenging enough that many bounce.

...shooocker! if only somebody had said that at the time

I did have two new notifications that people joined Stacker News from one of my posts, which hadn't happened in quite a while.

We might be able to capitalize a little bit on dissatisfaction with nostr as a social media replacement. Generally, though, I expect it will be hard to stir up much interest in a bitcoin driven platform when there's so little interest in bitcoin itself.

That's great! I do think AMAs help bring in new people. We've also had a few SN posts that have gotten some attention on X.

I find that the nostr-verse is not very well disposed toward SN. There's a sensation (oft-championed by our lovely friend nvk) that SN needs to move to nostr.

But your larger point that there isn't a lot of enthusiasm for bitcoin right now is sad to me, although I agree that it is probably true. It's all yelling about BIP 110 or talking about Strategy. I'm not sure what changes this in the near term.

reply

People get excited about bitcoin when it's making compelling and optimistic claims about the future or solving real problems in the present.

I've been quite disappointed with how hard it is to get nostr users to even try using Stacker News as a write-only nostr client. There's no extra work involved in posting from here and having it automatically go out to the relays.

reply

My impression is that people are on nostr because they want to be decentralization-maxxing. Nostr wears the robes of decentralization and it is not necessary to inspect whether you're using a centralized client (Primal) or a centralized lightning provider (Spark or custodial).

I still suspect Darth is correct. The biggest benefit SN has to offer is pay to post (which I think includes the sybil fee).
