Any of you guys watching the Argentina vs Cape Verde game? The underdog rising story is real! I would really like to see them pull it off and get through to the next round.

reply

I didn't see the game but heard it was really close.

reply

it was beautiful to watch. Messi's goal was pure wonder... and Den was of course happy to bag 5 points on that one #1519343

reply

Are you going to watch Canada today?

Yes, I'm on standby to switch on the stream. My kids are hogging the TV now, but we have an agreement that dad gets the TV when Canada plays.

reply

What are the kiddos watching?

reply

Did they see the Mario Galaxy movie?

According to espn analytics and the Portland Trail Blazers stat nerds Canada is winning this game.

Expected goals are better than goals right?

It was not suppose to be this close. The defending champs versus a small island nation with a population of about 500k people. But Cape Verde remained undefeated in regulation and took the champs to extra time. When they got scored on in extra time, they were able to equalize with an amazing goal by Cabral. It was not until the second half of extra time, with 9 minutes left before heading into penalty kicks, that Argentina finally got the goal that will seal their victory. Hats off to Cape Verde for being competitive, for holding their own, and for pushing the defending champs to the brink. I know you missed the game, but at least go catch the highlights on this one. It's a really good one. Man, I love a good underdog story!

reply

They had at least one more great shot on goal too that would have tied it back up.

Also, Cabral running into the stands after his goal to hug his wife (or whoever it was) was super endearing.

reply

You know the players names now?

What has happened to you? haha

And on America’s birthday.

He is a big futbol fan now. Got his heart captured by a country no one ever heard of and nobody knew where it located.

reply

I still don't know where it is and am not interested in finding out

Fun fact, the islands of Cape Verde were formed by under water volcanic activity. So you could say the people of Cape Verde were forged by fire. The resilience is real.

500k people there. It’s impressive they played with the world’s best and almost pulled it off.

I had no idea what his name was but it was in @gnilma's comment.

Yes, the free kick at the 119th minute. The ball was going to sneak in from just under the crossbar, but it got saved by Martinez. I guess that's the type of stuff you get from last world cup's golden glove winner.

The ref didn't look too pleased after Cabral ran into the stands. He did score arguably the goal of the tournament though, so he deserves some slack for delaying the game.

reply

Hell yeah! Even I can't deny how good this is.
