Check out my previous hikes here. #1291844
This week we head to Tynehead Regional Park, located in northeast part of Surrey, BC. The park is separated into two sections, the east side called Serpentine Hills, contains a paved perimeter path; while the west side contains thicker forests, unpaved trails, a section of the Serpentine River, and a salmon hatchery. The two sections combine for a 260 hectares park, available for walking, hiking, biking, or even salmon watching in the fall. This video on their official site says it all, without even needing to use words.
We visited the park a few year ago, back in March 2023, when my wife and I decided to go there for a walk. There was still snow, especially on the forest trails. We started our walk along the perimeter trail in the Serpentine Hills, then made our way into the western section, passing through forest trails, and over creeks and the Serpentine River on various bridges. We only took the walk and did not visit the hatchery though. Here are some photos during our visit.
Info board near the hatchery parking lot.
The perimeter trail is a paved trail that follows the perimeter of the Serpentine Hills.
Continuing on the perimeter trail.
Surprised to find out that the Tynehead Perimeter Trail is also a section of The Great Trail (a.k.a. Trans Canada Trail)
There was still some snow as it was March during our visit.
Not sure what this shed was used for, but it seemed abandoned.
These animals could all be found in the park.
Pdestrian overpass to cross over Highway 1.
Great way to cross multiple lanes of high speed traffic. The other side of the overpass leads to a residential area.
Unpaved trails in the west part of the park.
Still quite a bit of snow left on the forest trails.
Bridge crossing a small creek. I like how they put a sign with name of the creek that the bridge is built over.
More snow, more creeks, more bridges.
Emerging from the forest, we reached an open area.
Some stairs, but the trail doesn't have any significant elevation gain.
Another bridge.
I believe this one crosses the Serpentine River.
Another look at the slightly arched bridge that crosses the Serpentine River.
The path we took and the stats of the walk.
Big fan of the pedestrian bridge!
You seem to be a big fan of cool construction and buildings.
Yes indeed!
