The way I look at it is that when people found out about the inappropriate history of Rep. Swalwell and Rep. Gonzales, everyone was quick to call for both of them to either resign or get removed by Congress. When they faced this, they both quickly resigned. With Platner, he didn't have just one or two inappropriate incidents; he had

1. Nazi death skull tattoo on his chest (got it in 2007 and didn't cover it up until October 2025 when people started to find out, and even if the reason he got it was true and he didn't know, it is wild that he would have kept it for ya know almost 20 years)
2. Reddit posts (resurfaced that were posted in 2020 and 2021 under the username "P-Hustle." The posts included criticism of police and rural white Americans, as well as Platner's use of the word "retarded" to insult other Reddit users.)
3. Sending sexually explicit messages to multiple women (Platner sent sexually explicit text messages to several women. Platner's wife, Amy Gertner, whom he married in 2023, reportedly flagged the text messages to his former political director, Genevieve McDonald, according to WSJ.)
4. Volatile relationships (on June 4, the NYT published a story where they talked with 6 previous women he dated. Three talked highly of him, but three others talked about some pretty concerning behaviors and called their relationships toxic. Lyndsey Fifield, one of the women, came out and said how he had been rough with her and just when that was picking up steam Platner backers like Sen. Whitehouse from Rhode Island came out and said, "Seems like a lot of nothing,” adding that he was “not impressed” by the Times story and “I mean, the only one who had anything to say that seemed unsettling was a woman who works for right-wing political operations.” Others, like frequent MS NOW contributor Matt Stoller, called her a "professional Republican operative" and said she made "uncorroborated claims," though she provided the NYT with people who could back up her claims that the NYT never contacted.
5. Then we had the July 6th story where Jenny Racicot states the violence she suffered from with Platner.

My whole issue with this is how a party can scream over and over to believe women but that was clearly not the case here. It should not matter what your political party is; that is not a reason to dismiss or ignore this behavior, especially from someone who has a very clear history of problematic behavior. Even the MS Now contributor Matt Stoller has come out and plainly stated that Jenny Racicot's claims were "far more credible" than Fifield's. Even now, some of these big voices who dropped their endorsement of Platner because of the Racicot story have not walked back their comments on Fifield, something that the Left and the media would be eviscerating Republicans for doing and screaming how they don't believe women.

Platner was a problematic candidate from the beginning, and it wasn't because of his views or how the Dem establishment didn't back him at first; it was his history of bad behavior. For months, people worked to explain it away and say things like it was due to the PTSD he had when he got back from Iraq or this, that, and the other, but I am sorry that does not excuse behavior being bad for this long. Being a Senator is a huge honor and a privilege; this behavior is inexcusable and unbecoming.
