That's fixed by adjusting for purchasing power but you still wouldn't want the GDP of either island to go down (unless you hated those bastards).

Not really weighing in on the argument presented, but I think its completely justifiable to be skeptical of "GDP".
Imagine 2 Islands.
Island 1: Has 99 chickens, each sell for $1 = Total GDP is $99
Island 2: Has 10 chickens each sell for $10 = Total GDP is $100
Which island do you want to live on?
