I'm agnostic about how he died, but since they seem pretty desperate to have people think Russia didn't blow him up, I'm going to stick with "Russia blew him up".

Somehow they know it was a "sudden illness". Maybe they'll just dump his body in the ocean for no apparent reason.

So you're saying Russia got him with one of those heart attack guns?
I only 50% believe he died in a blow-up, but there is a logic to what you say. Russia becomes aware of what happened and desperately contacts US via diplomatic channels explaining they had no idea he was in building.
US can't really fault Russia for blowing up a clear military target that was launching attacks against Russian homeland, thus "brief and sudden illness" (ie. a fast moving chunk of shrapnel thru the head) story is launched.
In a sense having Russia killing a US senator who was hanging out in a drone factory does both sides harm with no real upside to either.
Admin now sees an opening of how it can use this development to pressure Russia to end conflict.
Time will tell...if we suddenly see Russia acting very conciliatory to US demands there may be some truth to it.
