They got a bunch of other vets like Ray Allen etc who took discounts. First example of player driven “super team”
I should have included the 2013 team with Allen in my honorable mentions. I think they come up short of these other teams that all have multiple league MVPs and crazy depth of HOF'ers, though.

And without him that would never work
The media loved the idea of two Big 3's clashing with each other, especially with one being older vets and the other younger guys.
Something Doc talks about all the time, though, is that the Celtics were a deep well constructed team. His message to the team when they played the Heat was "Those three guys think they can beat the 12 of us."
Love it! The standard here is going to be how the players were viewed at the time, not how we view them looking back.
