I will have to disagree with the king here. If he believes in free markets (which is a strong assumption of yes) then this market of building paper claims on real assets has both a positive and negative. The writer never acknowledges the wealth of effect of having fake paper gains and how that can encourage humans to take on more risk. For better or for worse. Plus what really gives this a negative perspective is the put that is placed upon markets by banks. If the bailouts of 2008 and 2020 never happened and prices were allowed to naturally correct in a free market then placing paper claims on assets isn’t a bad thing. It’s a solution to a problem of credit formulation.
