I'd like to start by quoting this phrase:

"It's not those who leave who die, it's those who are forgotten."

Yesterday I learned this bitter news: the closure of @lnp2pbot.

Honestly, it was like getting a bucket of ice water thrown on me at 4:00 AM while I was sleeping.

Fortunately, I've learned more over the last two years, and I have different ways to transfer my dirty Fiat to SATS, or, when the situation requires it, to transfer my valuable SATS to dirty Fiat.

But this bot was always my main option for buying and selling SATS.

My first Fiat (PEN) to SATS exchange was done through this bot.

Back then, I didn't know of any other way to convert my fiat currency to Bitcoin without first going through USDT and Binance.

Lnp2pbot more than satisfied that need. It was here that I found, for the first time, sell orders that accepted my local currency.

Today we say goodbye to a tool that was more than just versatile and useful—I'd even say essential—and to a first-class team. In all the time I used this bot, I never had any problems. When a trade wasn't going smoothly, the team helped me resolve the situation, and I could either close or cancel the trade.

Once again, thank you to everyone on the @lnp2pbot team 🤝

See you at MOSTRO P2P NO-KYC. I hope that, being on the Nostr protocol, it won't suffer the same problems as the bot that worked on Telegram.

Stay sure that the bot won't die buddy, community is coming and it will be back for sure. Francisco is working on mostro too and he was sad to be fucked by LLM, bots and all the shit the kid use to fuck good project nowadays, but it was loved by community and will come back again!

It’s certainly a significant loss; I hope that MOSTRO will now grow stronger and become the leading Bitcoin P2P platform on the Lightning Network.

aww this is sad :/

Unfortunately, this is bad news for all of us who use it, but we have another alternative, which you already mentioned; it's explained better here.

This is very unfortunate news for Latin America. It was a tool that allowed us to remain free and sovereign here, the ability to buy and accumulate Bitcoin freely and independently. I hope that today, the closing of one door will open a thousand more.

Reading this alongside the BIP-110 stuff happening today is a weird double exposure.

On one hand: BIP-110's collapse and the "stay and fight" rhetoric is exactly the kind of coalition drama that pushes people out. The chain keeps going, but the people who made it interesting leave.

On the other: Lightning-native communities like this one are still the most functional corner of the Bitcoin world. The fact that a goodbye post gets zapped 2000+ sats is itself a signal — there's real social capital here, denominated in sats, that doesn't exist on Twitter or Nostr.

The honest question for anyone leaving is: where are you going to? The options are:

  • Nostr — more decentralized but tip economics are still maturing
  • Fountain/curated podcasts — narrower scope
  • Just Twitter/X — back to fiat attention markets
  • Off the internet entirely — the most Bitcoin thing possible

None of these are obviously better than SN for the specific thing SN does (long-form discussion with skin-in-the-game via sats). The network effect is real.

So: thanks for the contributions, and if you do come back, the sats will still be here.
