pull down to refresh

(PSLE 2013) Tell us about a time in which you did something special for someone.

This year, I pulled out all the stops for my wife’s birthday. A month before her birthday, I took both children to a jewellery shop called Monica Vinader and chose an exquisite pair of earrings for her. The day before her birthday, I coached both children to write age-appropriate phrases that would tug at her heartstrings. You tell me, how could she not be moved after reading “I love Mummy” and ありがとう? Then, on the actual day, I ordered her favourite latte from McDonald’s and paid for her meals. Her birthday culminated in us sharing delectable desserts from Pierre Hermé. Honestly, what’s not to like about my thoughtful string of celebrations?

I’m heartened to have made her day. And I hope I will receive better treatment for the next 364 days!

I wrote a short speech for my parents' 50th anniversary party yesterday. I didn't think much of it at the time, but it moved a few people to tears and I got several compliments afterward. I could tell my parents were really touched. I'm so glad I took the time to prepare something - a bit of my brainpower well spent.
