...or fucking do Natarajasana by your desk?! Smiling, happily ever after...

an analysis of news articles in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found hundreds of pieces that referred to claims likening sitting to smoking.

Real bad, apparently. And as always when scienceTM is involved: "This is overblown"

In 2018 the American Journal of Public Health reckoned it carried about a tenth of the risk. But that is still bad. Hence the appeal of standing desks and, more recently, “active seats”: chairs and stools that tilt, wobble or rock to force continual postural adjustments. Is either actually healthier?
An analysis in 2018 found standing at a desk burned just nine more calories per hour than sitting. Nor are the cardiovascular gains impressive. A review in 2020 pooled nine trials involving 877 people. Participants stood about 1.3 hours more a day and were followed for roughly four months. Body fat and blood-sugar control improved slightly, but blood pressure, insulin, cholesterol and triglycerides did not.

...and moving for any portion of the rest of the day can compensate for any damage in sitting/standing at work:

What matters far more is movement. A study of nearly 482,000 Taiwanese adults in 2024 found that just 15–30 minutes of extra daily exercise could erase most of the excess mortality risk associated with sitting at work. Desk-bound workers may therefore wonder if active seating can make a difference. Some findings are encouraging.

Here's a wonderful comment from the newsletter/editor propaganda:

I FUCKING DO THIS DO!

...not always, not all the time, but as a nice little comfy version -- especially toward the late afternoon or so.

... Apologies to those who have invested in a modish workstation...

Sadge, v sadge.

Also: maybe just do whatever you want?

I mostly like my standing desk because I can sort of kneel on my chair and twist while I work. Standing sucks.

I’ve stood for hours in a row and then my lower back hurts. finally ChatGPT told me the point is to just not sit all day. so don’t stand all day either lol

I think it's similar with chairs.

Yeah some computer chairs are more ergonomic than others, and it's worth adjusting optimally for your posture and neck...

But also important is the ability to easily move around and change position regularly. Raise and lower seat, change tilt angle, move arm rests, sometimes use neck/lower back pillow and sometimes not, etc.

Better that than just finding the "best setting" and leaving it static forever.
