We placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it, and found an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books.

This is really horrifying. Generic titles aren't as big a deal, but destroying rare books is insane.

Hehe life imitating art. I remember seeing a futuristic dystopian movie where the main character goes in a cave or falls in a hole in the far future and it turns out to be the remnant of a leftover modern library. The computer is still functional, and remembers every book scanned, but the physical books are falling apart to dust or destroyed by water and pests. The march to technology was eventually going to wipe out books altogether, I guess we just didn't expect to be alive when it happened. Here we are.
