I have been interested in memory techniques, so I bought this book out of curiosity. It's not so much a guide to memory techniques as it is an academic book detailing the history of memory techniques in various Western traditions. Depending on your tastes it may be a bit dry, but I found the subject matter very interesting. Yates gets into hermetic approaches and how that culminated with Leibniz and his universal combinatorial grammar. It touches on Rosicrucian connections and Shakespeare as well. If you are at all interested, it's worth a read.
