When you’re moving between countries every few months, at what point does it make sense to establish tax residency somewhere?
Do most people eventually choose a country to become tax resident in, or is it possible to stay genuinely mobile long-term without creating tax complications?
You could apply for tax residency in a country that doesn’t tax foreign-sourced income and doesn’t require much physical presence (Paraguay, El Salvador etc.)
But if you’re not a very high earner it can also make sense to stay as a tax resident of your home country with progressive taxation. This way you can maintain the possible social benefits etc.
I don’t know how practical it is to not be a tax resident of any country. But if somebody manages to do that, I would be interested to hear more.
