I remember seeing a collation of instagram photos a few years ago.
The scene: Some beautiful landscape with open areas straight ahead, and a path to follow. And a young woman in a billowing, airy dress shown from behind leading the way, reaching back to hold the hand of what seemed to be the photographer, pulling forward into the landscape.

So far so great. But then the article showed how hundreds of instagram accounts copied that same theme in different settings, but all with the same elements.

That lack of originality, that feeling of "I've seen this or something very much like it before," and it feeling generative and rather boring. That is how I feel about seeing AI images.

The obvious caveat is that I only feel that way about the images I recognize as such. There may very well be generated ones I found appealing and never even suspected of having been done by AI.
