My takeaways

  1. Competition is great! The AFL just like the ABA showed getting top talent kills racism.
  2. The Buffalo Bills were AFL champs!
  3. AFL brought passing to the sport and flair with bright colored jerseys with names on the back. Plus they won the Joe Namath sweepstakes.
  4. The New Orleans Saints only exist because of corruption in the government. The merger was done illegally thus they needed a Louisiana senator Boggs to push the bill to that LBJ signed into law clearing it the deal.
  5. To think the NFL got going in the 1960s to what it is now is truly amazing.

This is why I wonder if new sports will emerge. The NFL, and to a lesser extent the NBA, feel untouchable, but neither were even a big deal when the Boomers were born.

These things can and do change.

It’s crazy how much the AFL changed football competition really did force the NFL to evolve.
