On August 11th, @lnp2pBot, a Telegram bot that allowed us to buy Bitcoin without KYC, stopped working. It had excellent user acceptance and users from all over the world.

Personally, I bought my sats every two weeks or monthly as I saved up to get Bitcoin.

Over time, in addition to just buying, I also started placing sell orders, and I was doing very well, earning some sats for myself.

I confess that the bot's closure was a real shock to me.

It's been almost a month since it shut down.

I thought most of us in the Telegram community here in Peru, @lnp2pbot_pe, which already numbered 161 members, would move to MOSTRO. It's similar to @lnp2pBot and even developed by the same people, with the great advantage of being open source and built on Nostr...

However, that didn't happen with Mostro. At most, there are only 20 to 30 orders placed daily among all the people who want to buy and sell, and the price is quite low.

Perhaps I think it was a bad thing that the bot stopped working on Telegram, but maybe, as I was telling a friend who's also in the rabbit hole 🐰, this event pushes us to use true open source and decentralized applications like Mostro, which give us the real privacy we need to earn our coins.

No KYC and Freedom

I have faith that as time goes on, more people will be encouraged to make their transactions on Mostro.

This experience has also led me to study other P2P and decentralized options and applications. In short, I never stop learning, and in the future, I hope to share this knowledge with my community.

"The end is the new beginning".

I feel the same way as you; I was really upset when the Telegram bot shut down. But after properly understanding what the problem was, I realised it was necessary – the bot had to close down to make way for MOSTRO.

Do you have a sense of why people didn’t follow over to MOSTRO or what they’re doing instead?

reply

I think it's primarily due to misinformation; no one has told them about Mostro, and I suppose that's the case for most people.

And they're not interested in having to download Mostro through open-source apps like Zapstore. Ultimately, most people only use or download apps from the Google Play Store because that's what the system teaches them, and if it doesn't come from there, they don't use or download anything.

reply

I think your intuition here is pretty good: if it doesn't come from Google Play Store a lot of people aren't even going to investigate it.

When you buy a phone, it comes pre-configured and practically forces you to download Gmail as your first action...

And when you download a different app, the phone tells you or displays a warning ⚠️ asking if you're sure you want to proceed with the download...

In short, the system is indoctrinating the masses.

It makes no sense today for bitcoin app with p2p to stay on playstore/Ios big tech will kill you for legal problems, not worth spending time with them.
Mostro can be downloaded from:

  • github
  • zapstore
  • obtainium

If people want kyc just tell them how to do it.

Mostro is in full health, we are growing, take a look at:

https://mostro.world

other community will come, mostro is the missing piece of lnp2pbot, anyone can run it.
More instances, more power. We will be unstoppable!

Telegram is pretty scammy, it scares me, so I think the move off is good in the end like you mentioned
