After using Windows all my life, and having solved some problems to clients on Apple devices, I must say that Linux is the best.
It requires some set up, but after that, is easier to use. Has all the required tools for the common user installed for free, and is very customizable.
I have testes several, but my favorites are (in order): PopOS, ZorinOS, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu.
A few friends and family members, and also clients, allowed me to format with Linux. All of them are happier than ever.
I want my old gaming computer to be used as NASS and also add a Bitcoin node. Working on the best setup to apply the required config.
Only on my desktop/workstation but I'm considering my next laptop (1-2 years down the line) to not be another Macbook because I'm quite fond of Omarchy. Let's hope the Oligarchy isn't fucking things up with all the money they accumulated. I ran a riced Arch Linux before without a tiling wm but I don't think I could land on the consistency of Omarchy even with help of an LLM.
1-2 years might also become more if RAM/NVME costs don't go down at least a bit. Then I might have to squeeze a year or two more out of my MBP/MBA.

For the record, Mac is Darwin, so old FreeBSD-ish roots, best of both worlds imho, if you can handle apple ecosystem (pick your poison). I would advice everyone to move off Windows as soon as you possibly can, nothing good there and risks are rather significant ... but, whatever rocks your boat... Ubuntu Budgie is the closest Linux distro and it ain't too bad either... my 2 satoshis :-)

I use Windows but I want to switch to Linux because it's a system that gives you freedom; I haven't done it yet because of the convenience Windows offers me.
I found using Windows back in the day horrific - like being a slave or in prison.
The experience on Linux is totally different- once you get it set up the feeling is hugely increased freedom and respect.
Break out and try it - you can download and set up Debian or Ubuntu next to your windows and choose which to login at bootup.
People talk about freedom but get trapped in servitude out of laziness and convenience.
In my case, it’s about comfort, but I know I need to break free and embrace my freedom.
Most important is that source code is available and can be studied by people (and LLMs) smarter than me.
