It’s been really inspiring to watch Interpol take this next level of creativity into their music, it feels like they just made their "In Rainbows," so ideally its obviously only more absolute classics from them in the future.✌️

There is something about this latest album tho, specifically the direction they are heading, that hits different, almost like they noclip out of the "music industry" altogether and dared to be difficult again. In some places it leans into symbolism almost for symbolism’s sake, but in others it feels much more obvious, almost like they are holding up a mirror to the state of the world and letting you decide whether you want to keep looking at it. It feels very reminiscent of early Talking Heads, Velvet Undergrond in that way, when New York bands could be strange, anxious, artistic, and somewhat uncomfortable without feeling the need to explain themselves.

I appreciate the new album cover for that reason, as surveillance is all the rage these days, so yeah and apparently we have somehow reached a point where most people do not seem to care all that much about it anymore. The album cover was done by Addie Wagenknecht and photographer Aiala Hernando this is my fav one from her.

Maybe that is the stranger part or the greater point they are trying to beat home, its not like the cameras showed up overnight. It is that they slowly became normal. Cameras on the roads, cameras on the buildings, cameras in our pockets, databases behind all of them, algorithms making connections between things we probably never imagined would be connected. Eventually you stop noticing the machine because the machine becomes part of the scenery. Not to mention the title track feels like its something out of a Tom Clancy novel, only speaks to the loss of our lives no longer being our own.

It is hard to look in the mirror sometimes and really consider how far we have gone as a society.

maybe that is why the album is hitting me the way it is, sometimes art gets there before the rest of us do at least that is what my mom would always say, on a much lighter note, it looks like I might actually be able to catch Interpol two nights in a row in ATL while I’m in town for TABConf, so theres that, gn stackers.
