I’ve realized I have a poor vocabulary; I use too many swear words in every sentence. I don’t want to be a saint or a prude who gets scandalized by bad language, but I do want to improve my vocabulary and cut down on the number of swear words I use throughout the day. I couldn't tell you exactly which ones they are since I say them in Spanish, but suffice it to say that I use the word "shit" quite often in Spanish, of course. To me, it has a much cruder tone; since English isn't my first language, the word doesn't carry the same weight I even find it funny in English.
Because using profanity has become such a daily habit and is so deeply ingrained in me, I say these words without thinking and quite naturally, regardless of the setting or the people around me. Another issue I have is that when I get overly excited or really passionate during a conversation, I raise my voice; I’ve noticed on several occasions that people stare at me because of the way I speak. No, I’m not proud of that. If I’m stressed or upset, it escalates it’s even more embarrassing. It is definitely something I want and need to change in order to improve. It gets difficult when your mind is racing at 200 km/h and your speech keeps pace with it. I need to practice patience and think twice before speaking.
Swearing from time to time is also a bad habit of mine, though I have to give myself some credit for cutting back on how often I do it. There are quite a few superstitious people who say that swearing brings bad things into your life; I’m skeptical, but I do realize that it’s an ugly way to express oneself and doesn't sound good at all.
At times, we must deconstruct ourselves, eliminate impurities, and rebuild ourselves.
